This inventory records the contents of the pharmacy of the late Gabriellus Maurelli, an apothecary of Marseille. Gabriellus died in 1428, leaving his estate to his three children. His father-in-law, the father of his widow, Batrona Maurelle, was named the children's guardian and the executor of the estate. Since the surviving members of the family did not have the necessary experience or expertise in the pharmacy trade, the shop was rented out to professional apothecaries. One of these rental contracts was drafted by a notary in 1431, and for unknown reasons, a decision was made to include copies of previous acts pertaining to the rental of the shop, including the original inventory made in 1428. This is one of several inventories of apothecary shops from later medieval Provence that were written in Provençal, the eastern dialect of Occitan. The inventory itself was compiled not by the notary, but by an individual named Jaume Boryenc, who may have been an apothecary. The pharmacy was one of the most well appointed in the DALME corpus. The last items to be recorded are two medical books whose titles are not specified (Item ii lybres de papier que son de medessina). The units of measure used are pounds, quarter-pounds, ounces, and drams. The transcription preserves the apothecaries' symbols used to refer to ounces and drams.
