This declaration is a record of the jewelry that was part of Philippe du Val-de-Mercy's succession. The document includes the name of Phillipe's husband, who predeceased her -- Étienne Philippon, procureur au Grand Conseil du Roi.  Cited in Madeleine Jurgens, Documents du Minutier Central des Notaires de Paris. Inventaires après décès, t.I (1483-1547) ( Paris: Archives nationales, 1982), no. 4.This succession passed into numerous hands over the course of the 1480s. For example, in 1487, the "ceintures d'argent, bagues, joyaux et pièces d'or" of Philippe Du Val-de-Mercy's succession were returned to Simone Philippon, her daughter, by Simon Du Val-de-Mercy, the brother of Phillipe. These objects had been entrusted to Simone's uncle after the death of her mother. It was also noted that the objects had been left out of her mother's estate inventory (Arch. nat., Min. cent., MC/ET/XIX/2, 9 June 1487)Phillipe's succession can be found at an earlier date as well, in Arch. nat., Min. cent., MC/ET/XIX/117 August,1485. The document records a sale of part of Phillipe's succession: the sellers being Simon Guilbon and Guillaume Lelièvre, marchands et priseurs jurés de biens in Paris, and the buyers Jean Leber, notaire et secrétaire du Roi and his wife Marguerite Philippon, who was the daughter of Phillipe and Étienne Philippon. The goods had previously been sold to Guilbon and Lelièvre by Simon Du Val-de-Mercy and Simone. The sale was valued at approxmiately 300 livres tournois.
