Bonne of Artois was born in 1395 to Marie de Berry and Marie’s
second husband, Philip of Artois, count of Eu. She was married first to Philip
II, count of Nevers, and then in November 1424 to his nephew, Philip III of
Burgundy. When she died in September 1425, an inventory of her silver vessels
and plate was drawn up in preparation for their sale to help cover certain
pensions, wages, and gifts to her various servitors and servants. The record
was preserved in account records now kept in the Archives Départementales de la Côte d’Or
in Dijon, one of the main residences of the Dukes of Burgundy in the late
Middle Ages. Among the interesting items listed here are a lightweight bird cage, and handwashing basin decorated with the arms of the city of Dijon (perhaps a gift from Bonne's official entry into the city?), and eight marcs and four ounces worth of silver sequins decorating two sleeves. The record of the inventory sale can also be found here in the DALME collection.
